I’m writing up a storm!

Posted by Lon Widdicombe on June 25, 2008

Wow!  The writing has been going fantastic for the last week or so.  I’m at 121 pages written and just finished chapter 10.  This chapter was the middle battle sequence of my novel and I believe represents the best writing I’ve done so far.  I’m finally in a rhythm and have developed a routine.  I basically write from 8 pm until about 1am, with a break between 9 and 10 pm.  I’m still not sure if I’m going to write tonight because this last chapter took a lot out of me and I’ve sacrificing sleep to finish it.  The weekend remains my prime writing time and last weekend I wrote for a total of 12 hours or so.  I did manage to get off the base for a few hours and hit Mamaia Beach in Constanta, Romania on Saturday.  The sun burn was well worth the beach time and the Corona tasted great.

I’ve been remise in adding one of my all time favorite authors to the blog roll of the right side, the master of Alternate History, Harry Turtledove.  If you haven’t read the Videssos books then you don’t know what you’re missing.  Start with The Misplaced Legion and work your way through the four book series, then go back and read the prequels.  This is his web site for Harry T, http://www.sfsite.com/~silverag/turtledove.html

I Passed the 100 pages written mark!

Posted by Lon Widdicombe on June 16, 2008

This weekend was very productive.  I’ve passed a personal milestone and worked past midnight to finish it.  100 pages written!  The page number wasn’t the total driving force.  I was in the middle a really creative spurt and didn’t want to stop until I finished it.  This has been refreshing because I was hitting a slow down for a while and need a shot of energy.  I still have it and look forward to the upcoming scenes.  The antagonist and protagonist get to mix it up one more time and this will set up the climatic ending pretty well too.

I managed to find time to create a Wikipedia page for Robert Buettner and his Jason Wander Series.  It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be and within 24 hours someone else was adding to it also.  Great stuff, I love Wikipedia!

Traveling and response from Robert Buettner

Posted by Lon Widdicombe on June 14, 2008

UH-60, my Transpo to Sofia     The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

Well the writing hasn’t been going well lately.  I’m still working crazy hours and recovering from a wicked case of the flu that has been going around the camp.  I’m starting to feel better and plan to spend a few good hours today writing.

One of the reasons I haven’t been writing lately is the Army sent me to Sofia, Bulgaria once again.  The good part was I had an internet connection for my Mac and was able to IChat with my family before they left for the states.  I’ve only been able to talk to them on the phone since I left for Romania last month and this will be my only time to “see” them before I get back in Oct or Nov.  They will be in California, Idaho and Montana visiting family for the next six week, lucky them.  I have a couple of picture above; the first was my means of transportation, (UH-60 with external fuel tanks) and the second is the church I visited last time.  I went with friends this time and they took a picture of me in front of it.

I got a response back from Robert Buettner, author of the “Jason Wonder Series” this week and was once again surprised by how wonderful the writing community is.  He was very supportive of my writing aspirations and gave me some good pointers.  I want to wish him the best of luck since he had quit a tornado experience in May and hope everything turned out alright.

Thanks for taking the time to read my comments,

Struggling with love scenes

Posted by Lon Widdicombe on June 4, 2008

I’m trying to add two love interest story lines, one that will come to fruition in later books and one that I just want the tension of lust involved.  I’m really struggling with the interaction between the two characters and it is resulting in slow going.  I’m a ways from having this down, but with lots of editing and revisions I think I can do it.

I’ve had to change my writing times lately and my writing is going slower because of it.  I have to write at night and only getting about 2 hours worth in if I’m lucky.  I’m also not finishing up until 1200 pm so the fatigue factor is starting to hit me hard.  I think I need to take a day off and try to get some sleep.
